The “Old-Fashioned” Reason Todd Porterfield Started Fairchild Capital

Our founder & CEO, Todd Porterfield, used to work at a big financial firm.

His favorite part of the job was working 1-on-1 with his clients.

After some corporate policy changes, Todd wasn’t able to help clients with their retirement planning like he wanted to.

So he left the corporate world and started his own retirement planning firm.

Todd founded Fairchild Capital in 2014 and hasn’t looked back.

It might sound old-fashioned, but Fairchild Capital was founded on the belief that, in business:

Relationships Are The Most Important Thing You Can Have.

We work with a small number of clients, so we can develop meaningful relationships with all of them and provide the highest service possible.

So if you’re ready for a financial planner who puts YOUR interests first…

You’re in the right place.

FOUNDER & CEO

Todd Porterfield, CFP® RICP®

My Story

I grew up on a ranch in the shadow of Mt. Shasta in northern California. Each year, as a part of the 4-H program I raised a steer and brought it to the county fair for auction and the money from the sale helped pay for college—and a new saddle.

Key Moments: Leaving the Big Money wealth management firms behind. The Big Money firm was not about planning or helping people it was about generating revenue for the firm. There was a better way.

Becoming A Financial Planner

A self-proclaimed financial “nerd”, the planning procession satisfies my analytical mindset, and it is thoroughly rewarding to work directly with families to help them reach financial independence. My cousin, Jill Porterfield CPA, has joined me at Fairchild Capital and we soon realized we could do even more for our clients by combining our unique perspectives and complementary skill sets.

My “Why”:

Everyone has a different path with their lives and money. Some are so passionate about their profession they may slow down but never stop. Others are ready to transition as soon as possible. I am energized by these stories and helping families make the best financial decisions.

My Story

I grew up on a cattle ranch in Northern California. My father lived through the Great Depression, and therefore instilled conservative fiscal values in his children. I spent most weekends as a child working on the ranch with my immediate family and an extended family of cousins, aunts, and uncles. I still cherish the memories from my childhood and apply the work ethic from those early years into my current work.

Becoming A Financial Planner

I have worked in various venues during my career, including public accounting and government. The challenges of the COVID era warranted a restructuring of my work life in order to meet the needs of my kids and my desire to become more independent. After multiple conversations with my cousin and now business partner, Todd, we decided to join forces and become a team again, much as we were when we were kids.

My “Why”:

Helping others navigate the financial world brings me great satisfaction. Giving my clients the confidence they need to retire comfortably and enjoy their retirement to the fullest is my goal.

Dream Vacation

Anywhere tropical… love to hit the beach and explore!

Greatest Adventure

Living in New Zealand for a year and attending Massey University in Palmerston North as an exchange student during college.

Favorite Activities

Pretty much anything that involves being outdoors. I like walking my dogs and riding my bike.

Greatest Love

My three kids… they are the light of my life!

Favorite Quote

Quitters are the only losers.
